Cetrimide is usually well tolerated, however, like all medicines it may sometimes cause side effects.

1. what this medicine is and what it is used for

This medicine contains the active ingredient cetrimide. Cetrimide is an antiseptic which helps prevent infection in cuts, grazes, small wounds and chapped hands.

2. what you need to know before you use this medicine

Some people must not use this medicine.

Do not use this medicine If you are allergic to cetrimide orto any of the other ingredients (these are all listed in section 6).

Warnings and precautions

This medicine contains cetostearyl alcohol which may cause local skin reactions (e.g. contact dermatitis) and E214, E216 and E218 which may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed).

Prolonged and repeated use is not advisable, as hypersensitivity (an allergic reaction) is more likely to occur. If your symptoms persist consult your doctor.

Use this medicine only on your skin.

Avoid contact with the eyes.

For all ages:

For general use, clean the surrounding skin and apply the cream directly, or use a piece of clean lint or gauze to apply the cream.

5. how to store this medicine

Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Do not use after the expiry date shown on the carton or tube.The expiry date refers to the last day of that month. Do not throw away any medicines via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to throw away medicines you no longer use. These measures will help protect the environment.

What this medicine contains

This cream contains the active ingredient cetrimide 0.5% w/w. The other ingredients are cetostearyl alcohol, liquid paraffin, phenoxyethanol, 1-butyl 4-hydroxybenzoate, butyl parahydroxyben­zoate, ethyl parahydroxybenzoate (E214), propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216), methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218) & purified water.

The medicine is a smooth white cream. It is available in packs containing 15g, 30g, 45g, 50g or 60g. Not all pack sizes may be available.
