What you should know about Eumon 25 XL

Please read carefully before you start to take your medicine. This leaflet provides a summary of the information available on your medicine. If you have any questions or are not sure about anything, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

What is in your medicine?

Eumon 25 XL belongs to a group of medicines called antianginals (nitrates) and is used to prevent angina (chest pain).

The name of your medicine is Eumon 25 XL. Each tablet of Eumon 25 XL contains 25 mg of Isosorbide-5-Mononitrate.

Other ingredients are used in the manufacture of your tablets. They are macrogol, hypromellose, stearic acid, talc, silica colloidal anhydrous, lactose, carnauba wax, magnesium stearate and the colourings E171 and E172.

Eumon 25 XL tablets are round, creamcoloured tablets with ’IM25’ marked on one side.

Eumon 25 XL are packaged in blister packs containing 28, 30, 56, 60 or 100 tablets.

Eumon 25 XL is used to prevent angina (chest pain). It works by opening up blood vessels and reducing the pain.

Uses

Eumon 25 XL tablets are used to prevent attacks of angina (angina pectoris).

Before Taking your Medicine

DO NOT take Eumon 25 XL if you are hypersensitive to isosorbide-5-mononitrate or any of the other ingredients of the tablets.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if:

  • ■ You have low blood pressure

  • ■ You are at risk of having a stroke

  • ■ You are taking other medicines, as some medicines do not combine

  • ■ You are pregnant or breast feeding

  • ■ ou are elderly and have liver or kidney disease

  • ■ You are allergic to nitrates or any of the ingredients of Eumon 25 XL

  • ■ You have any form of heart disease or have recently had a heart attack

  • ■ You have severe anaemia

  • ■ You have had a stroke or injury to the head

  • ■ You have an eye condition called glaucoma

  • ■ You have thyroid disease

Remember:

Drinking alcohol while taking Eumon 25 XL can lead to a drop in blood pressure making you feel dizzy and light-headed.

If you have an attack of angina your doctor will supply you with other medicines for this. Do not stop taking your Eumon 25 XL tablets.

If you suffer from low blood pressure or dizziness, do not drive or operate machinery whilst taking the tablets.

If Viagra (sildenafil – for male erectile dysfunction) is used by patients taking nitrates preparation such as Eumon 25 XL a severe and possibly dangerous fall in blood pressure can occur. This would result in collapse, unconsciousness and could be fatal. You should not take Viagra whilst on

Eumon 25 XL.

Taking your medicine

The usual dose for adults is 1 or 2 tablets given in the morning. You should always take your medicine as directed by your doctor. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Half a tablet may be given for the first 2–4 days.

Your doctor will have advised you of the dose you should take.

The dose for the elderly is as for adults; however, your doctor will take special care, especially if you have low blood pressure, or liver or kidney disease.

The tablets should not be crushed or chewed, but swallowed whole with half a glass of water.

If you forget to take your tablet(s) but remember within 12 hours of the usual time, take it when you remember. If you remember more than 12 hours after your usual time, don’t take it, just carry on with the next dose when it is due.

If you take too many tablets

Contact your nearest hospital casualty department or doctor immediately. Take this leaflet and any remaining tablets with you to show the doctor.

Are there any unwanted effects from this medicine?

Throbbing headache may occur when treatment is first started, but this usually disappears after 1 or 2 weeks of treatment. Flusing, feeling sick (nausea), a fast heart beat (palpitations) or a very slow heart beat have been reported. Rash and itching of the skin have occurred infrequently. There have been isolated reports of muscle pain. Dizziness and nausea due to low blood pressure may occasionally occur.

Storage and disposal of your medicine

  • ■ Keep your medicine where children cannot reach it.

  • ■ Store your medicines in a dry place below 25°C. Keep it in the dark.

  • ■ If for any reason you have any medicine left after your treatment, return it to your pharmacist.
