Galpharm Athlete’s Foot 1% w/w Cream (clotrimazole)

The name of your medicine is Galpharm Athlete’s Foot 1% w/w Cream, which will be called Athlete’s Foot Cream throughout this leaflet.

Read all of this leaflet carefully before you start using this medicine because it contains important information for you.

Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.

  • Keep this leaflet. You may need to read it again
  • Ask your pharmacist if you need more information or advice
  • If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. This includes any possible side effects not listed in this leaflet. See section 4.
  • You must talk to a doctor if you do not feel better, or if you feel worse, after 7 days.

1. What Athlete’s Foot Cream is and what it is used for

Athlete’s Foot Cream is a cream containing the active ingredient clotrimazole. Clotrimazole is one of a group of medicines called antifungals, which are used to treat fungal skin infections.

Athlete’s Foot Cream is used to treat:

  • Tinea pedis (athlete’s foot)
  • Tinea cruris (a fungal infection of the groin)

2. what you need to know before you use athlete’s foot cream

Do not use Athlete’s Foot Cream if:

  • You are allergic (hypersensitive) to clotrimazole or any of the other ingredients of Athlete’s Foot Cream (see list of ingredients in Section 6). An allergic reaction may include rash, itching, difficulty breathing or swelling of the face, lips, throat or tongue
  • You should not use Athlete’s Foot Cream to treat nail or scalp infections

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding tell your doctor or midwife and they will decide if Clotrimazole cream

is right for you. Follow their instructions carefully.

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.

Driving and using machines

There are no reported effects of Athlete’s Foot Cream on driving or operating machinery.

Important information about some of the ingredients of Athlete’s Foot Cream:

Athlete’s Foot Cream contains cetyl alcohol and stearyl alcohol, which may cause local skin reactions (e.g. contact dermatitis).

Do not smoke or go near naked flames – risk of severe burns. Fabric (clothing, bedding, dressings etc) that has been in contact with this product burns more easily and is a serious fire hazard. Washing clothing and bedding may reduce product build-up but not totally remove it.

Clotrimazole cream contains benzyl alcohol

This medicine contains 1 mg benzyl alcohol in each 100 miligrams.

Benzyl alcohol may cause allergic reactions.

Benzyl alcohol may cause mild local irritation.

3. how to use athlete’s foot cream

Dosage

Always use Athlete’s Foot Cream exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Adults, children and elderly:

Apply to the affected area two or three times daily for at least one month. If symptoms do not improve within 7 days contact your doctor.

Athlete’s Foot Cream is applied to the affected area of the skin.

If you swallow Athlete’s Foot Cream

In case you or someone else accidentally swallows Athlete’s Foot Cream, contact your doctor, pharmacist or hospital emergency department immediately.

If you forget to use Athlete’s Foot Cream

If you forget to use Athlete’s Foot Cream, use it as soon as you remember.

If you stop using Athlete’s Foot Cream

You should use Athlete’s Foot Cream for at least one month. Talk to your doctor before you stop using the cream.

If you have any further questions on the use of this product, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

4. possible side effects

Like all medicines, Athlete’s Foot Cream can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

All medicines can cause allergic reactions, although serious allergic reactions are very rare.

Tell your doctor straight away if you get any sudden wheeziness, difficulty in breathing, swelling of the eyelids, face or lips, rash or itching (especially affecting your whole body).

After applying the cream you might experience:

  • itching, blisters, burning, stinging, discomfort, swelling, rash, irritation or peeling of skin.

5. how to store athlete’s foot cream

Athlete’s Foot Cream should be kept out of the reach and sight of children.

Do not use Athlete’s Foot Cream after the expiry date which is stated on the carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.

Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required. These measures will help to protect the environment.

What Athlete’s Foot Cream contains:

The active substance is clotrimazole 1% w/w. The other ingredients are: sorbitan stearate, polysorbate 60, cetyl palmitate, stearyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, 2-octyldodecanol, benzyl alcohol and purified water.

What Athlete’s Foot Cream looks like and contents of the pack

Athlete’s Foot Cream is a white cream and it comes in an aluminium tube with plastic screw-on cap containing 20 g of cream.
